Tayen’s mum, Kali Gilbert, has sent us a lovely message…
“Living Paintings has allowed Tots to rediscover her love for books again.
Tayen loves to sit with a book and her brothers will talk to her about what they can see and what she’s feeling on the pages, helping to her make connections and encouraging sibling bonding. She is able to make up her own stories by what she’s feeling and loves to listen to us reading to her.
Before her full vision loss, Tots loved to look at books and I thought that love had gone with her sight, but Living Paintings have given her a new way to explore and discover. They are fantastic.”
Tayen has a genetic condition called Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). She has a large brain tumour that extends through her brain and optic pathway gliomas (tumours) on both optic nerves.
She has lost her vision due to these tumours and is having chemotherapy to try to stabilise the tumours.
