You can make your own volcano to demonstrate how they erupt! It’s quite easy to do using baking powder and vinegar. There are some simple, online instructions on the CBBC website. Lots of messy fun!
They can also be a lot of fun for a summer family project.
Things You’ll Need:
Small plastic bottle
Brown modelling clay
Bicarbonate of soda
Washing up liquid
Red food colouring
Take the plastic bottle and use the modelling clay to make a cone shape around it. Use more modelling clay at the bottom than the top to make the volcano shape.
Put your volcano onto a tray. Add a small squirt of washing up liquid (about 2 tablespoons), 1 tablespoons of red or orange food colouring and 2 table spoons of bicarbonate of soda.
Finally pour in the vinegar and watch your volcano erupt! Afterwards, you can wash your volcano and make it erupt again and again.
