Healthy Eating with Charlie and Lola
October 8, 2013

Sometimes we can all be fussy eaters can’t we? Our  Touch to See book for children ‘I will not ever never eat a tomato’ by Lauren Child, features popular CBBC characters Charlie and Lola. This book has a very amusing take on the fussy eating habits of young children, and gives us all some entertaining suggestions on how to combat these frustrating habits.

Charlie & Lola
In this Touch to See book Lola’s older brother, Charlie, attempts to feed his younger sister (as he sometimes has to do). Charlie knows that there’s hardly anything his young sister likes to eat. Lola especially hates tomatoes and exclaims; “I will not ever never eat a tomato!” Of course she does end up eating tomatoes – after Charlie gets her to think about her food differently. Tomatoes become “moonsquirters”, and peas are called ‘green drops from Greenland’ – which make them infinitely more appealing to his younger sister!

Vegetables
If you have a fussy eater in the family, this book is a great way to introduce the topic of healthy eating. Tactile pictures allow children to explore bananas, mushrooms and other vegetables mentioned in the story – a great way to start a discussion about healthy eating and trying different foods.
