Hugless Douglas at the theatre
June 1, 2015

Theatre shows add a whole new dimension to the fun of reading a picture book. You can meet and interact with your favourite characters and they will often use music, dance, puppets and clever props to bring the stories to life.

A drawing of Hugless Douglas

Our internationally acclaimed children’s author in residence, David Melling, has written a series of books about a lovable bear called Hugless Douglas. Douglas has his own show, created by Blunderbuss Theatre. which is touring around the UK. It’s perfect for little cubs aged 3 – 7 years and has plenty of humorous action for older children (and adults) too.

Other picture book characters which are springing to life on stage include The Gruffalo at The Lyric Theatre, Room on the Broom at Churchill Theatre and Gorilla at Polka Theatre. You can borrow Touch to See versions of all these books from our library which will help you enjoy the shows even more.
