Hi Maria here, this is my first blog! Here goes….

All staff and volunteers have been so welcoming during my first week here at Living Paintings. To get an insight into how the charity runs has been truly inspiring. When I was offered the job to come and start working in the office as the Programme Manager for the Touch to See Book Clubs I was, to say the least, over the moon.

During my first week here I have been meeting and shadowing staff and volunteers from production assembly to the library postal service its all been very exciting. I have learnt that a huge amount of work goes into all aspects of running the Living Paintings Charity and it is plain to see that everyone’s role here is the key to its success. My highlight of this week was listening live to Sir Derek Jacobi reading Hamlet and getting to know the whole team, lots of chatting and finding out that the world is a small place as I have found I have a lot in common with many people here at Living Paintings!

To be able to support people to engage with new interests, learn new skills, increase self esteem and develop new friendships is going to be very rewarding. Since leaving school it has been my mission to make a difference in the quality of the lives of others and so I am really looking forward to reaching out and linking in with the existing Touch to See Book Club members, recruiting new Clubs and seeking to create collaborations/partnerships with local voluntary and community bodies and individuals across the country.

If you would like to find out more, have any questions about developing a Club in your area or know of someone who would be interested please get in touch with me mariav@livingpaintings.org or call me on 01635 299771.
