We’re delighted to announce the publication of a NEW title in our preschool learning library. The World Around Us with Spot includes Touch to See book, Spot’s First Walk by Eric Hill.
Spot goes exploring on his own, for the first time, and meets interesting animals, finds a beautiful garden, digs up a bone and falls in a pond.
Young children will love lifting the flaps to discover the tactile pictures of hidden animals and objects under each one. They can also practice reading Braille with the simple text. This book is a lovely gentle way of teaching them about the need to be adventurous within safe boundaries.
The accompanying tactile pictures extend the learning experience by exploring simple educational themes. These include the difference in textures between a rough tree trunk, a sharp bird’s beak, a smooth snail’s shell and a fluffy cat. There is also a tactile showing the life cycles of a frog, chicken and butterfly.
To help children decide which clothes to wear in different weather conditions, there’s a colourful tactile showing a selection of Spot’s clothes. Finally, to help with vehicle identification, there’s a tactile featuring a car, bicycle, lorry and tractor.
With added music and sound effects, these short tracks are a fun and stimulating way to teach blind and partially sighted young children about the world around them.
Our preschool Learning Library of Touch to See books also includes Peppa Pig, Postman Pat, Jasper, Kipper and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Visit our library to borrow them now.
