Louie is blind, but loves reading for pleasure

Library member Louie enjoying One Year with Kipper

We think all young children should be able to fully experience picture books and have their imagination sparked by well loved characters such as The Gruffalo, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Kipper – this is how they learn to love reading.

Meet Louie, he absolutely loves our Touch to See picture books and eagerly awaits receiving our books in the post – he can hardly bear to send them back! As you can see from the photo Louie enjoys snuggling up with his favourite book and discovering what Kipper looks like through his sense of touch.

Louie has recently helped us by ‘Visually Impaired Testing‘ new book ‘One Year With Kipper’. We value Louie and his mum’s input at this vital stage of production. Louie and his mum had this to say about testing ‘One Year with Kipper’,

“Louie loved the pictures and was able to follow the audio description. Everything was just right. Louie liked reading the story then having the pages described. He really enjoyed this book, he liked that there were four feely pictures!”

At Living Paintings our mission is simple – to improve the quality of life of blind and partially sighted people of all ages. Our unique Touch to See books bring to life stories and pictures and enable children like Louie to fully experience the joy of reading.
