Our 30th anniversary summer has been jam packed with special events to celebrate! We created the most spectacular gin bar and had a disco with Stickman, the Gruffalo and Elmer the Elephant, all to raise funds and awareness for Living Paintings and our Touch to See library for blind and partially sighted people. Thanks to everybody’s help we have raised £22,000 for our Touch to See library and we have raised awareness about the work of our charity.
The Botanics Lounge: 1 June 2019
We kicked off our summer of 30th anniversary celebrations, by hosting a special event at the Fieldgate Centre in Kingsclere. The Botanics Lounge transformed the Fieldgate into a pop up nightclub for one night only! It had it all; quirky signage and tropical plants, rezoning of the rooms and spaces, hessian backdrops and botanical prints and artefacts. Topped off with the outside becoming a pizza terrace with bunting and flowers. 150 guests enjoyed gin cocktails created and served by The43Club, wood fired pizza and fantastic live music from Bristol-based band Fully Funked.
More than £11,200 was raised for our Touch to See library service for blind and partially sighted people. Thank you to everybody who contributed to this successful evening and for supporting the fundraising games and of course the cocktail bar!
Endure24: 14-16 June 2019
We were delighted to be the chosen charity at the Endure24 challenge held on 14-16 June at Wasing Park in Aldermaston, Berkshire for the second year running. While 3,000 adults prepared to run for 24 hours whether solo or in their teams, our activities commenced on the Friday with a children’s race and Robot Rave Disco. The fun continued through Saturday with crafting activities and games, take a look at the photos to see their creations! Ending on Sunday with a bucket collection to raise money to support our work for blind and partially sighted people.
Our partnership with Endure24 Reading is to provide children’s activities for those attending in support of their running grown-ups. This way we can inform thousands of people about the transformative work of Living Paintings. Over 400 children visited to participate in arts and crafts, lucky dip, face painting, tombola and storytelling by popular children’s author Ian Whybrow. Our colourful sweet shop was as popular with the runners as with their children! And thanks to our visiting characters The Gruffalo, Stick Man and Elmer the Elephant children and adults alike were thrilled to meet these larger-than-life children’s book favourites.
On July 6th, we held a celebratory concert at St Nicolas in Newbury with the Cromwell Singers and guest artistes Forty Thieves. Beautiful melodies echoed around the church on this midsummer evening. Refreshments and a fun raffle entertained the 230 attendees and £1,200 was raised for Living Paintings.
