Introducing Emma Lawrence our up and coming talent of 2015. Emma is a friend and supporter to Living Paintings and will be helping us spread the word about what we do.
Emma Lawrence is an 18 year old singer songwriter from Newbury who has been writing music since she was 15. She began singing lessons when she was 13 and taught herself guitar at 14.
Her strong voice carries well both on the big stage and in intimate surroundings. Her music is an acoustic fusion of folk and pop which has its own distinct style and clearly expresses the moods and feelings of the songs. With two EPs already released and a top 40 hit in the iTunes singer/songwriter charts, Emma is working on new material which she plans to release later this year.
Influenced by artists such as Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard, Sam Smith and Emeli Sandé, her songs reflect the challenges and influences of everyday life and appeal to audiences of all ages. A recent review stated: “Her guitar playing was simple and effective and a good base for her powerful, warm and folky voice to sit on. Her vibrato was quick and easily punctured the audience ambiance. An exciting performer.”
Emma has been performing around the South for the past 3 years and has established a strong following. She has sung at various music venues and festivals including Glastonbury, Basingstoke Live!, Warminster Punchbowl Festival, Newbury Real Ale Festival and Hampshire Octoberfest. Last year she had the pleasure of performing in front of the crowds at the Christmas Lights Switch On ceremonies at the Water Gardens in Harlow, Essex and the Newbury in Berkshire.
Later this year Emma will begin studying Songwriting at music college BIMM Bristol, whose previous graduates include George Ezra, Tom Odell, The Kooks and James Bay.
