In a first for Living Paintings, we will soon be publishing a new wordless picture book for blind and partially sighted children. Written and illustrated by Aaron Becker, the award-winning title Journey is entirely visual, drawing on the imagination of the child to make the story truly come to life.
The publishing team decided to seek permission to adapt what would be a very challenging book for youngsters with visual impairment to engage with for that very reason. With no words to translate into braille, the fantastical world and characters in the book are currently shut off from those with no or limited sight but with a little Living Paintings magic, we hope to make this exciting book accessible for every child.
Our Touch to See version of Journey will feature four hand-painted tactile pictures of key scenes, characters and settings in the book alongside a rich audio description and an evocative soundscape.
