Did you know that our very own Touch to See Book Club Manager, Maria Storesund, runs her very own club in Berkshire? She recently took her members on a trip to the filming location for Downton Abbey, Highclere Castle. She tells us:
“Once a year our club goes out on an outing. Where we go is down to the members and this year they decided to visit Highclere Castle in Hampshire, home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. We visited the tea rooms, gift shop and Egyptian exhibition. We had a fabulous relaxing stroll around. Even though audio was not available, we still thoroughly enjoyed the descriptions and readings from the helpers.”
This club meets once a month but every summer during August they arrange an outing to somewhere they all want to go. The places are picked based on their interests. Members have a real love of the TV programme, Downton Abbey, so being there in person was great as they felt they were part of the whole thing.

“I absolutely loved the visit to Highclere Castle. I didn’t feel rushed and it was so relaxing and interesting – one of the best trips I have ever been on.”
“The Egyptian tour was amazing. The connection between the Castle and excavations in Egypt was fascinating.”
