Chinese New Year at Living Paintings
February 5, 2019

2019 is the year of the Pig. Legend says that the order of the Chinese Zodiac was decided by a race. The Jade Emperor invited all the animals to his temple and the first 12 to arrive would rule the zodiac. The day of the race Wolf destroyed Pig’s home, which he had to rebuild before setting off. Despite this delay, Pig was the twelfth animal to arrive at the temple and governs the 12th year.

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, we’ve brought together all the piggy characters you may meet in our free Touch to See library for blind and visually impaired children and young people. All of these characters have been brought to life with our handcrafted and hand-painted tactile pictures and fun audio guides. Our Touch to See picture books are available to borrow in braille grades 1 and 2 for blind and partially sighted readers.
