Football talk by Danni
June 30, 2014

I’m a fairly recent convert to football and first became interested when I moved to Reading where the football club has a huge following.

As a blind person, I wasn’t sure how much I would enjoy going along to the Madejski Stadium to follow a match.  A blind friend persuaded me to give it a try.  He told me there would be headphones available through which we would get a commentary on every kick.  I went along one evening and the atmosphere was fantastic – I was hooked.

Well, now that Reading’s season is over, my thoughts are turning to the World Cup.  It has been quite hard for all European teams to adapt to the heat in some parts of Brazil but I did hope that England will at least reach the quarter finals and that our young team would demonstrate their power and skill (although I must say I was a bit worried about Rooney’s recent lacklustre performances.)  I understand training in South America starts at a very early age thus producing some of the best players in the world and it’s a huge part of their life and culture.

I predict a thrilling final between Brazil and Argentina but I am no expert!
