You can make your own volcano to demonstrate how they erupt!┬áIt’s quite easy to do using baking powder and vinegar. There are some simple, online instructions on the CBBC website. Lots of messy fun!

They can also be a lot of fun for a summer family project.

Things You’ll Need:

Small plastic bottle

Brown modelling clay

Bicarbonate of soda

White vinegar

Plastic container

Washing up liquid

Red food colouring

Take the plastic bottle and use the modelling clay to make a cone shape around it. Use more modelling clay at the bottom than the top to make the volcano shape.

Put your volcano onto a tray. Add a small squirt of washing up liquid (about 2 tablespoons), 1 tablespoons of red or orange food colouring and 2 table spoons of bicarbonate of soda.

Finally pour in the vinegar and watch your volcano erupt! Afterwards, you can wash your volcano and make it erupt again and again.
