Sharing the BBC One Christmas special with blind children
November 5, 2019

Every Christmas day, BBC One shares an unmissable kids’ animation. This year, it’s The Snail and The Whale by the hugely popular Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. To celebrate, we’ve created our own unique tactile and audio adaption of this lovely story for blind children in the UK. Join us as we welcome the intrepid travelling pair to our library this Christmas!

Our dedicated volunteers have been working hard to bring the project together, and have hand-pressed and painted three beautiful feely pictures bursting with colour and action. The voice of this tale of friendship and discovery on the rolling ocean will be Rachael Stirling, known for her parts in TV dramas, ‘The Bletchley Circle’ and ‘Tipping the Velvet’. Did you know the voice of her mother, Dame Dianna Rig also appears in none other than the BBC one Christmas Day cartoon of The Snail and The Whale!

Whether it would be the frozen land of Antarctica or a tropical island with the warm sun on your face and sounds of the forest, where will your imagination take you?

Get ahead of the crowds and reserve your copy of our Touch to See version of The Snail and the Whale here.
