We’re delighted to tell you that Lifeline 4 Kids, the UK national charity working to improve the quality of life for children with special needs and disabilities, have generously funded a new tactile and audio book to go into our library. This will be Hugless Douglas, the children’s classic about a lovable brown bear, by David Melling.
Douglas has just woken up from a long nap in his deep, dark cave and he definitely feels in need of a hug. His search for one doesn’t go quite to plan in this funny, gentle tale which also includes a boulder, some sheep and an extremely disgruntled owl!
David Melling is the best-selling creator of The Kiss That Missed, as well as several books featuring Hugless Douglas. He also wrote Just Like My Mum and Just Like My Dad (below) about an adorable lion cub, which can be borrowed from our free online library. We were delighted that David recently agreed to be the first children’s author/illustrator-in-residence on Wigwam (our wonderful online world of picture books).
We are very grateful to Lifeline 4 Kids for their support, which enables us to give blind and partially sighted children the chance to enjoy this popular picture book in the same way as their friends and family. We know it will be a hit with our thousands of young library members who will all want to give Douglas a big hug!
